Small Rooftop or Ground Mounted Solar Photovoltaic Permit Process Checklist

• A Building Permit application consisting of an Electrical and Mechanical Permit fee is the only application required to be submitted for Ground Mounted or Rooftop Photovoltaic (PV) Systems.
• Submittal of the completed building permit application, drawings and calculations of the proposed system will initiate the process in which a permit will be issued.
• Contractors that are applying for Photovoltaic systems installation must have the AES designation on the DPOR license.
• Review time of the application and construction documents will not exceed one week.
• The permit fees for small rooftop or ground mounted solar PV is $51.00.

After review and approval of the submitted application, you will be notified that the permit is ready to be issued.
You may stop by the Office of Building and Zoning in the Wise County Courthouse at 206 E. Main Street, Wise Virginia 24293 and pay for the permit or send payment by mail to PO Box 570, Wise Virginia 24293 and have the permit mailed or emailed to you.

Commercial Solar Photovoltaic Permit Process Checklist

• A Building Permit application is the only application required to be submitted for Commercial Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System.
• Submittal of the completed building permit application, drawings and calculations of the proposed system will initiate the process in which a permit will be issued.
• Contractors that are applying for Photovoltaic systems installation must have the AES designation on the DPOR license.
• Review time of the application and construction documents will not exceed one week.

After review and approval of the submitted application, you will be notified that the permit is ready to be issued.
The flat rate permit fee for commercial applications of solar PV systems are as follows:

50,000 kw or less $150.00

50,000 kw to 100,00 kw $200.00

100,001 kw to 150,00 kw $250.00

150,000 kw and up $300.00
